Rite of Her Sacred Fires: Annual Global Hekate Devotional Ritual

While many practitioners of alternative spiritualities associate the full moon in May by annually commemorating the Wesak of the Buddha, I choose instead to light fires of welcome for my Patron Deity, the Goddess Hekate. Since 2010, the Covenant of Hekate has issued a global summons of Hekate devotees to participate in its annual Rite of Her Sacred Fires, which always occurs during the full moon in May.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that my own Chicago-based Fellowship of Isis Iseum of the Rekhet Akhu and the city’s larger Lyceum of Alexandria-Mishigami will be publicly hosting the Rite at the Lyceum’s Wicker Park location tomorrow night. Everyone is welcome to join us. Temple doors open at 6:30 and the ritual will begin at 7:15. The location is 1465 North Leavitt Street, just south of North Avenue between Damen and Western Avenues. Walking distance from the Damen Blue Line “L” stop.

Feel free to bring any Hekate-related ritual items to charge on the altar, as well as any personally composed hymns, poems, or other works of art to share and/or adorn the space. Snacks and libations are welcome for potluck feasting afterwards.

Astrologically Auspicious Energies Are Afoot

The stars will be more than fortuitous for this or any other ritual celebration, so make the most of these planetary energies peaking within the next 24-48 hours. The full moon at 20° of Scorpio will be forming a sextile with transformative Pluto in Capricorn, and Pluto is forming a trine with the Sun in grounded, sensual Taurus. This is excellent energy for manifestation!

But, wait–there’s more! There’s a Grand Trine in Fire Signs getting underway as well, as the North Node, newly entered into heart-centric Leo for the next 18 months, trines stabilizing Saturn in Sagittarius, which trines Mercury-conjunct-Uranus in Aries. This is optimistic energy rife for creative self-expression (Leo) that will have some staying power (Saturn). Mercury and Uranus conjunct in Aries lend themselves to innovative insights and out-of-the-box thinking, not to mention swift travels and the possibility of a financial windfall (as Mercury rules commerce and Uranus rules surprises coming out of left field). (Of course, vigilant Virgo that I can be, I would be remiss in not issuing a note of caution regarding this conjunction as well; Mercury conjunct Uranus in Aries can lead to unexpected head injuries as well, so do be careful  especially when traveling, but even head injuries somehow related to electricity or electronics, which Uranus rules, can be indicated.) Make yourself receptive to the Muses and see what gifts They bring!

Io, Hekate!

One of my Iseum’s main shrines. Yes, that is a dog skull.

So, yes, come on to the Temple tomorrow night and join us for the Rite of Her Sacred Fires. Help spread the word!

Hail to Thee,

Hekate Khthonia,

Spectral Sovereign of Darkness,

Bringer of Shadows that we might see invisible realities

Without distraction from the light.

Visit us this night with divination and the Sight!

May it be so!
